What is Science Academy?
The Fraser Heights Science Academy is a partnership with Simon Fraser University allowing secondary school students to take university-level chemistry and computer science courses. The program’s aim is to build strong foundations and concepts for success in STEM fields at the university and beyond.
We prioritize 21st-century learning principles, emphasizing the importance of engaging in scientific inquiry over memorizing facts. Universities often worry about students’ readiness for science fields, especially their ability to apply knowledge beyond the classroom. Many secondary students taking advanced courses like AP Chemistry or AP Physics have facts but lack essential scientific skills for university success. In response, the Fraser Heights Integrated Mathematics and Science Academy has created an effective model to address these educational challenges.
